Hi! I’m Robbie MacKay.

Geek, idealist, environmentalist, web developer.

Out to live a life that matters. A life that makes a difference.

I love life and people – and I want to make a difference to people. I’m interested in sustainability and empowering communities everywhere. I see no reason why everyone in the world should not be guaranteed the basics of survival.

I work for organisations I respect and admire, organisations that make a difference to the world. I’ve worked for Greenpeace NZ. Now I work at Torchbox as a Drupal developer, working with a great people and great clients.

I contribute to open source projects, most recently Ushahidi and the wider crisis mapping community.

I’m a web developer and I have a Bachelor of Engineering in computer systems. I work mainly in PHP and a bit of Python but I’ve worked in C, Javascript, Java, VHDL and other things I can’t remember right now. I also studied robotics, computer vision and electronic hardware design.

I learned to program sometime between age 8 and 10, when I started reading the Commodore 64 manual (from cover to cover) because I was bored. I learned HTML at 11 and moved onto other work on the web from there.

I didn’t get to far looking at your website.
It’s not totally clear what you’re about from the first page. But then I didn’t watch the video yet :)
Great to link up with another person out to change the world :)
